Saturday was meant to be a hiking day. We’d planned to get up at some ungodly hour on Saturday morning to hike the Pino trail to the top of Sandia Peak, taking the cable car back down. But the Pino trail has been closed for weeks due to the extreme wildfire conditions, and giant slurry tankers are still battling the flames in nearby Los Alamos, so we had to give up our plan.
Actually, the 100 degree temperatures all week made the prospect of a demanding hike (with a 2700 ft elevation gain) seem a little less attractive. If you want to be perfectly honest.
So we went to the farmer’s market instead, and we bought carrots.
And we enjoyed the shade of the trees, which we would not have experienced on the side of the mountain.
On the way out of town, I snapped a picture of the Sandias. Next time, I told myself, we’ll get there. Next time, we’ll hike to the top.
