It’s been far too long since Dulcinea graced the pages of this blog, so I’m happy to share a photo of our girl modeling Crockern Tor, the latest pattern from designer Ysolda Teague’s 2015 Shawl Club. (Note: the fluffy black object in the photo above is our kitty Mithril’s tail. He doesn’t want Dulcinea to have all the glory.)
The yarn-and-pattern pairing for this Shawl Club installment is especially dreamy. The eyelet design floats as delicately as a cloud, and the custom-spun yarn from John Arbon Textiles is quite appropriately called “A Perfectly Blended Cloud”.
(But perhaps you’re wondering: what exactly is a Crockern Tor? As far as I can tell, it’s a rocky peak in Dartmoor, said to be the home of Old Crockern, the pagan god of ancient tradition.)
The Crockern Lace yarn is an exquisite blend of Zwartbles and Polwarth fleece, and if you don’t know what a Zwartbles sheep looks like, you need to click on link I’ve provided. Your spirits will be uplifted.
I enjoyed winding the yarn and knitting the shawl, and I must admit that having this easy project on my needles lifted my spirits during some very hard times. I suspect designer Ysolda Teague wanted to give her Shawl Club participants a simple summer project, because she described Crockern Tor as follows:
A perfectly blended cloud from one of my favorite mills worked into a simple crescent with a scattering of random eyelets – breezy summer knitting whether you’re shaking sand out of your project bag or sneaking in a few stitches at your desk. Enjoy!
